Over one hundred years ago, Minnie Radcliffe sailed over from England to settle in the United States. She was oddly enamored by the boathouses on Carson Avenue in Atlantic City — a row of shacks slapped together from wood decking on a ramshackle pier. Something about that waterfront called to her. She acquired the properties, built a home nearby, and planted her family firmly on the edge of the Atlantic City waterway.
Her daughter Gladys married Arthur Kammerman, a Swiss engineer, and together they raised five children in that home. One of them was Les.
After returning home from serving in the Coast Guard during World War II, Les Kammerman acquired a parcel down the street — the former site of the Evening Star Yacht Club — and got to work. In 1961, he erected a small dock with two gas pumps and repurposed an aluminum ticket booth salvaged from the World's Fair as his office. It wasn't much. But it was the beginning of something that would last more than sixty years and counting. From those modest origins, Kammerman's Marina grew. Over the decades, Les's children, grandchildren, cousins, and second cousins all showed up to work — learning the docks from a young age, carrying the family's commitment to this waterfront forward with every tide.
Today, Kammerman's Marina is in the hands of Chris and Stacey Kammerman — a husband-and-wife team who took the helm with the same passion and commitment that built this place. Under their watch, a $5M renovation transformed the marina into one of the most capable and modern transient stops on the East Coast.
Chris knows this waterfront the way only someone who grew up on it can. He worked these docks as a teenager, went on to captain boats up and down the corridor from Key West to New Jersey, and spent 25 years serving the Atlantic City community in law enforcement. Coming back to run the marina was a homecoming.
Chris and Stacey don't manage from a distance. They're here when you pull in, here when you need something, and here when you're ready to get back underway. Need a package held? Done. Looking for a local recommendation or someone who knows these waters? They've got you.
Personal service that doesn't clock out — because the owners call this place home.
